Understanding Tonsillitis: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments

Inflammation of the tonsils happens when the tonsils are irritated. The common cause is bacteria like group A streptococcus. Children, teens, and young adults are often affected by children and it generally shows with signs like difficulty swallowing, high temperature, earaches, and headaches.

A general practitioner might diagnose it through a physical examination of the throat and sometimes performing a test sample from the throat to confirm a bacterial infection. Managing viral tonsillitis requires pain relief through medications like ibuprofen or paracetamol. When bacteria are the cause, antibiotics might be read more used.

In recurring tonsillitis cases, surgery to remove the tonsils is an option if there are multiple severe episodes. Preventative measures include avoiding contact with others during symptoms.

Overall, tonsillitis can be viral or bacterial, and the treatment varies based on the cause.
